'Non c'è', the new album by Edoardo Bennato

After the collaboration with his brother Eugenio, which saw them engaged in “La realtà non può essere questa”, Edoardo Bennato returns to his rock nature with an important project entitled “Non c'è”, the new album for Sony Music (Legacy Recordings).

“Non c'è” will be available from tomorrow, Friday 20 November, in digital stores and published on CD and double vinyl.

“I convinced myself to make an album with 24 songs and I had fun singing my songs again like 'Un bravo ragazzo' which seems written today”, he declared. Phrases like “Salviamo il salvabile” and “Una di notte c'è il copricuro” bounce off the front pages and in the news headlines becoming the “singsongs” of these days; so many other refrains of old and new songs on this album.

“They are not just historical pieces, they are pieces that complement those of today, the songs of that time are complementary to the bad songs of today” explained Edoardo, telling how the success of the first album “Non Farti Cadre Le Brachi” was born, which was censored. “I would gladly do without talking about the past when “Non Farti Cadre Le Brachi” was disqualified, the boy in the video of “Non c'è” is like me when I went out into the streets to sing my punk songs, only he didn't want to be successful, I always wanted to make it”.

Bennato has told the story of Italy and its society in these forty years, "it is a divided country, as time goes by the gap between the north and the south increases and we arrive at a critical situation" said Edoardo also making fun of the Governor of Campania who he said could have been Totò's sidekick for his daily outbursts. With Clementino, Bennato sings "L'uomo nero" against racism and to tell the tragedy of migrants.

"On this planet there are no different races but a single one that has changed in the journey through the latitudes of the planet, from dark skin to blond diaphanous skin. Racism is an infection that finds strength in the fear of the masses, who fear the invasion of migrants".

Bennato has never been conventional, he is an “increasingly” contemporary singer-songwriter, “always on the ball”: sarcastic, provocative, now director of an ideal newspaper that tells the future, with his ability to read what has been and to anticipate the contents of what will be. The references to the political situation are not over. “We can do nothing but ironize to address the neurotic, critical aspects of reality, in this battered and battering little Italy. Beyond the criticisms and provocations, I consider myself privileged, which is why I stand in solidarity with those who have a more difficult situation than mine. I hope that the covid pandemic teaches us to reflect even if I don’t like to talk about it”.

The songs of the past acquire a new sound, thanks to the excellent arrangements and the sound of Edoardo's band, but there is also room for collaborations like the one in "Perchè" with Morgan, whom Edorardo has great respect for. Eight unreleased songs in "Non c'è", fifteen repertoire songs that have marked the artistic career of Edoardo Bennato, one of the most brilliant singer-songwriters of the Italian music scene. "I have never been conciliatory and I will never be, I am a renegade, a populist who makes rock" concluded Bennato.

The album was conceived and created in Naples, an ideal place to draw inspiration and create music; where reality reveals itself, for better or for worse.
