Another Green World, success for the exhibition in Villa Comunale

“Another “green” world is possible. A world that will have to have the long breath of our personal responsibility. This exhibition invites us to reflect on how we citizens can change the face of our gardens by getting involved for the common good. The Villa Comunale belongs to everyone if we all take care of it with love, care and maintenance, otherwise it will not be for anyone”. Benedetta de Falco, president of the Premio GreenCare Aps Association, said this during the symbolic inauguration ceremony of the open-air exhibition “Another Green World” by Igor Grubić, curated by Adriana Rispoli, held in the Villa Comunale in Naples. The initiative was part of the Maggio dei Monumenti 2021 and was organized by the Morra Foundation with the Department of Culture and the Department of Green of the Municipality of Naples and in collaboration with the Premio GreenCare Aps Association. FAI Giovani Napoli was entrusted with welcoming citizens and tourists in the Villa Comunale to guide them towards enjoying the exhibition.

The exhibition included about 50 micro-interventions with a soft impact that, respecting the historicity of the place, involved the statuary, fountains and neoclassical architecture, “wrapped” with banners with original texts by the Artist and quotes from Gramsci to Beuys, from Brecht to Mayakovsky, which aim to stir consciences on the themes of the defense of nature and poetry, of personal responsibilities, but above all to underline the centrality of public gardens as places of opportunity for a community to evolve through shared cultural experiences. A public art operation that also included a performance in homage to the great Italian poet Dante, with which the artist urged the public to engage “in times of moral crisis”.

Igor Grubić highlighted how “the intent was to reawaken collective interest in a common good. It was a heroic passage from the entrance of the Villa to the end, in which – through quotes, physical interventions and slogans invented by me – I intended to reawaken the artistic and creative ideals of humanity”.

Adriana Rispoli emphasized how the exhibition “wanted to send a political, poetic and ecological message to the citizens who live in the Villa. It was a great collective work to which Neapolitan artists such as Roberto Pugliese, who created the sound composition of the exhibition, and the children of the Carlo Poerio School, who collaborated involved in a creative language laboratory composing a storytelling”.

Present was the president of Fai Giovani Napoli Marianna Del Pezzo who recalled the commitment of the Italian Environment Fund to revive historical places in a contemporary way to bring new audiences closer.

The city councilor for Green, Luigi Felaco, stated: “Focusing on art as a driver of change is a priority. We must make all citizens understand how important respect for art and nature are, it is a symbiotic work that aims to improve our lives. We are proud to have hosted this international project”.

Annamaria Palmieri, City Councilor for Culture, Tourism, and Education , emphasized: "In Naples' green lung, we hosted an international artist who interpreted a city location to spread messages that go beyond environmental awareness. The installations blended into the urban context, sending a message to the new generations." Giuseppe Morra, director of the Morra Foundation, emphasized that "for nearly forty years, the Foundation has been pursuing a policy of managing the city's most important areas, areas we aim to vigorously revitalize."
