Child Pornography: Don Nicola De Blasio Remains in Prison

Don Nicola De Blasio, former director of Caritas Benevento, remains in prison.

The eighth section of the Naples Review Court has decided. The appeal presented by the defense lawyers against the order with which the Naples GIP had tightened the restrictive measure last November 23 has been rejected. For 20 days, in fact, the priest - former director of the diocesan Caritas and former parish priest of the church of San Modesto in Benevento - had been under house arrest on charges of possession of child pornography.

The investigation started from the Turin Prosecutor's Office, which last November 3 ordered a house search in De Blasio's home. On that occasion, the Postal Police found files and videos on PCs and smartphones used by the prelate.

Technical investigations will now provide evidence to the words of the suspect who, during the hearing to validate his arrest, claimed to have downloaded the material between 2015 and 2016 to conduct an investigation into the phenomenon of child pornography in the ecclesiastical sphere. This activity was then interrupted when he realized that his personal initiative was completely illegal.
