Benevento, child pornography: conviction confirmed for Caritas director

The Court of Appeal of Naples has confirmed the sentence of Don Nicola De Blasio , 56, former director of the diocesan Caritas of Benevento, who will serve three years and six months for possession and exchange of child pornography.

The former director of Caritas and former parish priest of the Church of San Modesto, now in isolation in a facility in Faicchio, was tried last June with an abbreviated trial by the preliminary hearing judge of Naples, a decision confirmed in the second instance. The defense will appeal the sentence before the Supreme Court.

The investigation began with the Turin Prosecutor's Office, which a year ago ordered a house search of De Blasio's home. On that occasion, the Postal Police found files and videos on PCs and smartphones used by the priest, who claimed to have downloaded the material between 2015 and 2016 to conduct an investigation into the phenomenon of child pornography in the ecclesiastical sphere.
