Napolitano, who earned his law degree in 1947 from the University of Federico II, was "the third President of the Republic to graduate from our university, after De Nicola and Leone ," Lorito proudly emphasizes. Even during his university years, he had a very important political standing among the students. He was active in the student council movement, a national delegate to the university congress, and had been part of an anti-fascist group since 1942."

The university, which will celebrate its 800th anniversary in 2024, will organize an event to commemorate Giorgio Napolitano, but it is also considering "something more lasting ," explains Lorito: "Beyond the office he held, he was a great statesman, who at certain times held the country together. Let's think back to 2011, but also to the shift that led the PCI toward a much more progressive vision than it could have had at the time. I believe he was a man who made a difference.
