Ex Whirlpool, Fiom: “Relaunch of the Naples site underway. The fight pays off”

The future of former Whirlpool workers looks brighter, thanks to the industrial plan presented today in Rome to national and local trade unions, confirming their return to work starting in January 2026. Barbara Tibaldi, of the Fiom-Cgil National Secretariat, and Mauro Cristiani, general secretary of Fiom-Cgil Naples, presented the details of the plan, outlining a promising picture for the plant on Via Argine.

The planned investments will exceed 72 million euros on production and the plant, with an additional 11 million earmarked for research. This funding could be further increased through an acceleration plan that, if implemented, will launch new carpentry activities, paving the way for further hiring and investments.

Confirmed production includes solar trackers, transformers and power skids, providing employment for all workers and creating opportunities for 16 new hires, in addition to the 294 former Whirlpool workers who will join Tea Tek employees.

Public participation through Invitalia is being defined, with the possibility of direct involvement of the company in the company's capital up to 49%. Italian Green Factory has ensured that the industrial plan will be sustainable even without the entry of Invitalia into the shareholding structure.

The next step will be the signing of the program agreement at the ministerial level, preceded by information meetings for workers. Trade unionists have stressed the importance of rapid government intervention, setting June as the deadline for the meeting. The political commitment shown by the Ministry must now translate into concrete action, marking the conclusion of a long battle for workers.
