The redevelopment works of the entire area in front of the entrance to the medieval village of Casertavecchia have been awarded. The construction site will start in the next few weeks, with the implementation of some interventions intended to change the face of the entrance gate to the village. The intervention, worth about one million euros, falls within the scope of the resources of the Pnrr (Chapter "Urban Regeneration") and involves works of considerable importance.

First, Largo San Rocco will be completely redesigned, that is, the area at the foot of the pine forest, where there will be a complete reorganization of traffic flows, with the provision of parking lots and entrances for the bus terminal built by Air Campania. In addition, a traffic island will be created (where Mediterranean cypresses and lavender plants will be placed) to protect the Church of San Rocco, as well as a rest and refreshment point for visitors.

Important works will be those that include the resurfacing of the Largo San Rocco, using white Sannio paving, and the placement of street furniture. In addition, the lighting system will be modern, with the use of energy-saving LED lamps.

Another intervention will see the construction of a roundabout at the intersection between Via Rossetti and the entrance to the panoramic viewpoint and, finally, at the foot of the pine forest a backlit Corten steel plate will be placed, on which the text of the Presidential Decree that in 1960 declared the medieval village of Casertavecchia a “National Monument” will be reported.

Meanwhile, still with regard to the hilly hamlets, the Council has approved the technical and economic feasibility project for the safety works of the rural road of Via Casola, which connects Casertavecchia to Valle di Maddaloni and the entire Isclero Valley, within the scope of the Regional Call SRD07 - Investments in infrastructure for agriculture and for the socio-economic development of rural areas.

The aim is to secure the rural road by shaping the subgrade, laying a new wearing course and installing a lighting system. The new connecting road to Valle di Maddaloni is of particular importance as it hosts several agricultural companies.

"We are facing ," explained Domenico Maietta, Councilor for Urban Regeneration of the City and Hilltop Villages, " two projects of great importance for the hilltop villages. In Casertavecchia, work will allow us to completely redevelop the entrance to the medieval village, offering greater decor and important services to tourists."

"These works will allow us to continue in the action of valorizing this extraordinary asset of ours and, once the interventions are finished, we will present the candidacy to make the Borgo di Casertavecchia a UNESCO world heritage site. As regards the works in Via Casola, we have solved a problem that was a priority for us".

"With this project ," Maietta concluded , " we are creating a modern infrastructure connecting the Caserta hillside to the Valle Isclero gateway and the Valle di Maddaloni municipality. It was a laborious undertaking, but we are particularly satisfied and proud of the result achieved."
