Accident on the A1 motorway, two dead and one injured. Serious traffic disruption: Italy divided in two

A serious traffic accident paralyzed the A1 motorway at km 328 in the municipality of Figline Valdarno, in the province of Florence. The collision, which occurred shortly after the northbound Valdarno exit, involved four trucks and three cars, resulting in two deaths and one serious injury. Firefighters from the Florence Fire Department, Figline Valdarno detachment, and the Montevarchi detachment of the Arezzo Fire Department responded to the scene.

Two teams of firefighters worked to ensure the safety of the area, freeing the occupants trapped in cars and heavy vehicles, and handing them over to medical personnel. Unfortunately, two of the people rescued were declared deceased on the spot, while a third person, seriously injured, was transported by helicopter to the emergency room in Careggi.

To further complicate the situation, an ambulance in transit with an urgent transfer of a child from Foligno to the Meyer hospital was blocked a few meters from the accident. The firefighters managed to create an emergency space to allow the ambulance to continue its journey to Meyer.

The Highway Police and Autostrade per l'Italia staff intervened to manage traffic and facilitate the arrival of emergency vehicles. A crane was also sent from the Florence-West detachment, then returned. Traffic is currently blocked in both directions, causing serious inconvenience and effectively dividing Italy in two.
