Amalfi prepares for the challenge in the Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics

Sunday 13 October 2024 in Genoa there will be a rowing battle in the 69th edition of the Palio.

The partnership with the Anantara hotel group, sponsor of the Italian crew made up of Amalfi athletes and national rowing champions, has been renewed again this year

The Amalfi Galleon prepares for the challenge of the Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics, in the shadow of the Lanterna. The event, now in its 69th edition, is scheduled for Sunday, October 13, 2024, on the artificial basin of Prà, where the four galleons of Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa, and Venice will battle it out for the rowing prize.

In the waters of Prà, the last two editions ended in a photo finish: in 2018 Amalfi prevailed over the home team by a few centimetres, in 2021 Genoa won by a narrow margin over the Campanians.

Sponsor of the City of Amalfi for this event is once again Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel: a partnership that is consolidated year after year and offers an absolutely precious contribution to the Municipality and the Citizens' Regatta Committee.

Under the command of coach Antonio La Padula, the crew composed of Luigi Lucibello (coxswain), Luca Parlato, Vincenzo Abbagnale, Giovanni Ruocco, Nunzio Di Colandrea, Giovanni Abagnale, Salvatore Monfrecola and Luigi Proto, in addition to the helmsman Vincenzo di Palma, with the reserves Gabriele Amato and Giovanni Bottone, is completing its preparation before leaving for Genoa.

The crews competing in this year's edition will all be particularly competitive: the challenge is in Genoa, the host, fresh from consecutive victories in the last editions of the Palio remiero. The thrilling rowing battle between the four queens of the seas, whose banners are contained in the flag of the Italian Navy, is therefore renewed.
