Attempted murder in Brescia for former informer Domenico Amato: 5 more arrests

New troubles for the repentant boss Vincenzo Sarno and his friends accused of the attempted murder of the former repentant Domenico Amato.

The Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate (Dia) of Brescia has in fact executed this morning five precautionary custody orders in prison, issued by the investigating judge at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office - District Anti-Mafia Directorate.

The recipients of the measures, considered responsible for attempted murder, possession and carrying of altered weapons, are being investigated for an episode dating back to January 2022, when a car owned by Domenico Amato, a former justice collaborator originally from Campania, was set on fire in Urago Mella, in the province of Brescia.

According to the investigation, the fire was started using a fire starter on a tire, with the intent of starting a slow combustion and attracting the owner of the vehicle onto the street, before hitting him.

The homicide, however, was not carried out thanks to the timely intervention of the firefighters and the police. Given the criminal history of the victim and his past membership in organized crime contexts in Campania, the DDA began an in-depth investigation, delegating the necessary investigations to the Dia Operations Center in Brescia.

Investigations have uncovered the existence of a murder plot against the former justice collaborator, which was allegedly conceived and organized by members of a criminal group led by Vincenzo Sarno , another informer and a leading figure in the Sarno clan from Ponticelli, a neighborhood of Naples. Sarno, currently detained following an arrest on February 6th by order of the Brescia Prosecutor's Office, is included in the protection program for former justice collaborators.

The investigations have also highlighted the links between the Sarno clan and some members believed to be close to the 'ndrangheta Arena clan of Isola Capo Rizzuto (Crotone), confirming a criminal network that extends beyond regional borders. Today's operation involved several Italian provinces, including Modena, Naples, Prato, Genoa and Ancona, demonstrating the breadth of the connections between the criminal groups involved.

Previously, on February 6, three arrests had already been carried out, including that of Ciro De Magistris, close to the Continis, and Antonio Verterame. On that occasion, a third former collaborator of justice had also been arrested, caught while purchasing a Remington model 700 precision rifle, caliber 308, complete with optics and ammunition.

The weapon, which came from the black market and was stolen from homes, was intended for a murder that, if not prevented, could have sparked a feud.

The other two arrests, carried out in flagrante delicto, instead concern the possession and carrying of firearms in a public place. In particular, two Beretta pistols were seized, respectively caliber 22 short and 6.35, with ammunition and serial numbers removed.

The DIA operation confirms the persistence of dangerous links between criminal groups of different extractions, with ramifications that go from Campania to Calabria, and the need for coordinated action to counter threats to public safety. Investigations continue to ascertain further responsibilities and reconstruct the entire criminal network involved.
