A man who escaped from Avellino prison was recaptured immediately after
A new episode of violence shook the prison of Ariano Irpino, in the province of Avellino, this morning, where an inmate, already known for aggressive behavior, attacked two members of the Penitentiary Police.
The regional secretary of OSAPP (Autonomous Trade Union Organization of Penitentiary Police), Vincenzo Palmieri, reported this. inmate, ex article 32 and previously removed from the Salerno prison for violent acts against the staff, went on a rampage, furiously destroying the registration office.
He dismantled computers and furniture, shattered plexiglass windows and, armed with scissors modified to offend, threatened to kill an inspector, shouting that he wanted to “cut off his head”. In the chaos, he also hit a police assistant present on the scene.
The two injured officers were immediately rescued and, after a medical examination, were given a 7-day prognosis. The episode has rekindled the alarm about the safety conditions in penitentiary institutions.
OSAPP, in expressing solidarity and wishing a speedy recovery to the attacked colleagues, points the finger at the management of the prisoner, defined as a "recidivist" in his violent conduct.
“We ask that the regional administration and the DAP leaders intervene urgently, transferring this entity to a more adequate structure, even at the national borders,” declared Palmieri, underlining the need for drastic measures to protect the staff.
Today's attack adds to a series of similar incidents that continue to put pressure on the prison system, fueling debate about security and the management of problem prisoners.
