Giugliano – A joint operation by the Carabinieri of the Caserta Company, which began in the early hours of today between Giugliano in Campania, Afragola and Naples, led to the arrest of six people believed to be responsible for a series of aggravated thefts against tobacconists in the province of Caserta.
The order for house arrest was issued by the GIP of the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere at the request of the Prosecutor's Office.
The investigations, coordinated by the Sammaritan Prosecutor's Office and conducted by the military of the Caserta Operations Section, made use of technical activities and the analysis of images from video surveillance systems, managing to shed light on at least three robberies carried out in the first months of 2024.
The thefts, which took place during the lunch break, netted the gang a total loot of over 33 euros in cigarettes and scratch cards, as well as 5.500 euros in cash.
The criminal group's modus operandi was well-tested: the gang used a rented van with counterfeit license plates to reach the targeted tobacconists.
Two members, with their faces partially covered, entered the shops using adulterated keys, while the other accomplices drove away in the van so as not to arouse suspicion, and then quickly returned to pick up the criminals with the loot.
The investigations also documented at least five other inspections, fortunately unsuccessful, at tobacconists located in the municipalities of Casapulla (CE), Montecorvino Rovella (SA), Bacoli (NA), and in the Vomero and Via Toledo districts of Naples.
At the end of the operation, the six recipients of the restrictive measure, all originally from Naples (a 53-year-old, a 27-year-old, a 57-year-old, a 65-year-old, a 52-year-old and a 34-year-old), were placed under house arrest at their homes, called to answer, in various capacities, for criminal association aimed at committing crimes against property and aggravated theft.
