A serious episode of violence shook the heart of the historic center of Naples late yesterday evening. Around 22 pm, in via Duomo, near the pizzeria “Dal Presidente” in via dei Tribunali, Deborah Capasso, 47 years old, was injured following a family argument that degenerated into an assault.
According to what was reconstructed by State Police, the attacker would be a 65 year old Neapolitan, already known to the police, who at the height of an argument hit the woman with a knife to the chestThe victim was given emergency medical assistance and transported to theVecchio Pellegrini hospital: his conditions are serious but it's not life threatening.
The attack took place in front of a commercial activity in the area. The officers of the Vicar-Market Commissariat, engaged in a patrol service, intervened after hearing screams and noticing a group of people gathered around the victim. They found the attacker still armed and arrested him disarmed and immobilized before the situation could further degenerate.
Le images from video surveillance cameras have helped clarify the dynamics of the incident, revealing that the argument – which began for reasons still being ascertained – quickly degenerated into an attack with a cutting weapon. The 65-year-old was reported for aggravated personal injury.
Deborah Capasso is the de facto owner of the pizzeria “Dal Presidente”, a historic business in the Decumani founded in 1994 and made famous after having served pizza to the former president of the United States Bill Clinton visiting Naples. In the last two years, the business had ended up at the center of a judicial investigation.
According to the investigations, the company would have been acquired with funds attributable to Vincenzo Capozzoli, deemed Contini clan area leader, and part of the proceeds would have ended up in the coffers of the criminal organization. According to investigators, the company was managed by Massimiliano DiCaprio, Deborah Capasso's husband at the time of the events and now working in a new business in the baking sector.
Deborah Capasso, involved in the investigation, had been arrested, then released from prison and subjected to the arrest, a measure recently revoked. She had been released a few weeks before last night's episode.
The police are now continuing their investigations to shed light on any further developments in the incident and fully clarify the motivations behind the attack.

It is a real shame that these things happen in a city like Naples, where people should feel safe. The authorities must do more to prevent violence, especially in public places like pizzerias.
