Napoli – Another very hard blow to the Reale-Rinaldi-Formicola Camorra cartel after last week’s blow to the Reale gang from the Pazzigno district.
Article Key Points
Trial after trial, the clan emerges increasingly weakened from the judicial investigations, and the latest sentence of the Third Criminal Section - Panel B, presided over by Judge Primavera, inflicts a new blow: eight sentences for a total of over one hundred years in prison.
The convicted bosses
A Mario Royal e Anthony Marigliano, considered to be the ringleaders of the organization, were respectively handed down 15 years and 15 years and 6 months of imprisonment. Five more affiliates – Pasquale Esposito, Vittorio Folliero, Giuseppe Savino, Vincenzo Silenzio and Domenico Gianniello – they received 10 years in prison each, while Giuseppe Milo was sentenced to 10 years and 6 months.
The only acquittal, with full formula, is that of Vincenzo Vigorito, defended by lawyers Leopoldo Perone and Salvatore Impradice, exonerated for “not having committed the act”.
The 2021 Operation and the Clan War
The trial, as Il Roma anticipated, was celebrated with ordinary rite, arises from maxi-blitz of May 2021, when 37 arreststhey hit the clans Reale-Rinaldi, Formicola and SilenceThe suspects were accused of mafia association, attempted murders, extortion and illegal possession of weapons, in a context of feud with the Mazzarella clan.
The investigations of the Flying Squad, supported by telephone and environmental interceptions, as well as from the declarations of collaborators of justice, have reconstructed years of armed clashes for the control of the territory, in particular San Giovanni a Teduccio, but also in other areas such as Market Square, Porta Nolana, San Giorgio a Cremano and Porticoes.
Among the most damning evidence, the numerous “stese” (intimidating shootings), some attacks with kalashnikov AK-47 and attempted murders of rival exponents, including Carmine Improta, Alfonso Mazzarella and Vincenzo Cozzolino, boss of the opposing clan.
The “46 district” and the display on social media
The operational heart of the clan was the so-called “district of 46”, bunker of the Rinaldi, where members got their numbers tattooed on them "46" as a symbol of belonging. But the investigation also brought to light another aspect: the display of power on social networks, with posts and videos celebrating Camorra ties. One show of strength which however turned into a decisive lead for the investigators.

It is incredible how justice is taking its course but there are more and more clans that continue to operate. We hope that this time the conviction will serve as an example for other mafiosi in the future. It is necessary to fight against this crime.
Unfortunately it seems like every time there is a new group forming. Even though there are convictions, the problems never end, it is a difficult cycle to break and it takes a long time to see real change.
The investigations seem thorough, but there is always the risk of new feuds between clans. Despite the convictions, violence remains a major problem for Naples and its surrounding areas.
