Naples – “He used his car as a weapon to kill my daughter, and for this reason I call on the magistrates to not allow this murderer to plead guilty.”
These are the words of Gianfranco Morra, father of Lucia Morra, the young victim of the accident that occurred in via Terracina in Naples, on the night between 29 and 30 September 2023.
Lucia, along with her boyfriend Francesco Altamura, was returning home on a scooter when she was hit by a sports car speeding in the wrong direction. The driver of the vehicle was a young man, Dario Lenci, tested positive for drug testing. In the first instance, the defendant was sentenced to ten years in prison.
The video of the impact, acquired in the trial records, has caused great emotion. Now, the case has reached the second level of judgment, with the hearing scheduled before the second section of the Court of Appeal of Naples.
“If on appeal this sentence, which I already consider too light, were to be reduced or, even worse, if a plea bargain were allowed, a very serious message would be sent: that the lives of two young people are worth little, that those who drive under the influence of drugs and drunk, killing, can get away with a few years in prison or even a ridiculous sentence,” declared Lucia’s father, visibly moved.
The man, together with his family, expressed his will not to give up and to continue fighting to obtain justice: "My daughter and Francesco will never be given back to us, and for this reason I ask the judiciary not to turn its back on the truth, not to allow justice to be humiliated".
Finally, Morra launched an appeal to the citizens: “Do not remain silent in the face of this possibility: if today those who kill on the street are forgiven, tomorrow it could be the turn of another son, another brother, another friend”.
