The operation, conducted by the military of the Carabinieri Cites Nucleus of Naples, in collaboration with the Veterinary Service of the ASL Na2 Nord and the Lipu, led to the reporting of a 61-year-old man for keeping animals in conditions incompatible with their nature.
Poor hygienic conditions and mistreatment
The investigators, who intervened following reports, noted the terrible conditions in which the birds were kept.
The cages, crowded and overlapping, were inadequate for the detention of the animals, while hygiene was seriously compromised by food residues and faeces accumulated for days. Furthermore, there was no adequate ventilation system, generating a nauseating odor.
All 60 parrots were seized and the 61-year-old was reported to the judicial authorities for violating article 727, paragraph 2, of the penal code, relating to the detention of animals in conditions incompatible with their nature.
