Sorrento is preparing to host a cultural event of great importance, capable of uniting tradition and spirituality. From April 5 to June 8, the library of the Cloister of San Francesco, with its intimate and cozy atmosphere, will host the exhibition “San Francesco d'Assisi. Art. Cult. Devotion”.
This extraordinary exhibition, organized by the Art and Culture Office of the Friars Minor of the Salerno-Lucana religious province, was born from the commitment of the community of Franciscan friars led by Fra Domenico Marcigliano and is part of the celebrations of the centenaries linked to the legacy of St. Francis. The exhibition, which will be inaugurated on April 5, is intended to evoke the depth of the Saint and his message of universal peace.
Visitors will be able to live a unique and sublime experience, immersing themselves in a true iconographic story that celebrates the purity and simplicity of the Saint, witnessed by the refined genius of cultured art and the spontaneous energy of popular art. Different artistic styles intertwine to explore the figure of Saint Francis and his adaptation to the various eras, giving life to a harmonious dialogue between history and creativity.
The artistic exhibition tells how the Patron Saint of Italy has been perceived and reinterpreted over time through art, but also thanks to the devotion fueled by the expansion of the Franciscan Order in the territory.
Panels, canvases, precious devotional objects, prints and sculptures – together with some extraordinary paintings depicting episodes from the life of this spiritual icon, dating from the 15th to the 20th century – will be exhibited alongside works never before shown to the public, to delight not only the eyes, but also the spirit of those who choose to admire such beauty.
The exhibition is also a significant moment of enrichment, comparison and cultural value, thanks to the program enriched by the organizers with concerts of sacred music and conferences dedicated to the themes of the exhibition. These events represent a unique opportunity to deepen the spirituality of the Saint of Assisi and his impact on culture and devotion.
The rarity and value of the objects on display, together with the possibility of immersing oneself in a suggestive celebratory journey between art and spirituality, make this event an unmissable event. All this acquires further charm as the Easter holidays approach, as well as the April 25th and May 1st, with the related long weekends that offer an ideal opportunity to explore the extraordinary artistic expressions of our country.
We therefore reiterate that the inauguration will take place Saturday 5 April 2025 at 16,00:8 and that the exhibition will remain open to the public until 9,30 June. It will be open every day from 12,00:16,00 to 19,30:XNUMX and from XNUMX:XNUMX to XNUMX:XNUMX. Reservations are recommended for groups.

The event in Sorrento seemed interesting and the friars do a good job of preserving the tradition. The exhibit on St. Francis seems well organized, but I hope there are activities for the younger ones too.
