The international operation
The investigation, coordinated by the section “weaker groups” of the Naples Prosecutor's Office – with the PM Alfredo Gagliardi and the deputy prosecutor Raphael Falcone – was launched thanks to information provided by Germany, where yesterday 79 alleged pedophiles were arrested in a major operation. The Italian Postal Police has thus identified the fifteen suspects, all users of the streaming platform “KidFlix”, a horror site specializing in horror videos sexual abuse of minors, even particularly violent ones.
The four arrested
Four of them were searched and arrested:
- Un 27 year old unemployed from Foggia
- Un 49 year old computer scientist from Biella
- Un 22 year old worker from Caserta
- Un 36 year old masseur from Pesaro Urbino
For three of them, the custody in prison, while the fourth was placed under house arrest. The other eleven suspects – including a worker, several employees, professionals and even a lawyer (aged between 22 and 67) – are still under investigation.
KidFlix: Cryptocurrency-Powered Horror
The site “KidFlix” It functioned as a streaming-style platform, where users paid in criptovaluta both to access and to view the complete child pornography content, selectable after a preview. Who shared new material got a bonus: the ability to watch videos without paying, in a sort of macabre “do ut des”.
The files were catalogued by gender and quality, with higher prices for videos in High Definition.
“Wikipedo”: the (failed) handbook of anonymity
The so-called “pedophile's manual”, hosted on “Wikipedo”, was considered one of a kind: it explained how to access the dark web anonymously, evading controls. But the police, also thanks to the international cooperation, they managed to dismantle the system, seizing:
- Tens of thousands of illegal files
- Numerous cryptocurrency wallets
The operation involved the cyber security centers di Campania, Lombardy, Lazio, Piedmont, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Puglia, Veneto and Sardinia, proving once again that Even the dark web is not a safe haven for criminals.
