The lifeless body of a diver was recovered last night in the waters between Torre del Greco and Ercolano.
The victim, Cristofaro Lucia, 54 years old, originally from Portici but resident in Castellammare di Stabia, was an expert diver.
Initial information suggests that the man had gone to the Favorita area of Ercolano in the afternoon for a dive, and then disappeared without ever giving any further news of himself.
Wife's alarm and searches
The alarm was raised by the wife, who, unable to contact her husband, alerted the Port Authority of Torre del Greco. The Coast Guard men, once they arrived on site, found the clothing left by the diver before entering the water, confirming that the dive had indeed taken place.
Shortly after, during the search operations, the body was located in the sea, not far from the area where the clothes had been found.
Suspicious marks on the skull and on the skin
From the first check, the body - recovered by the firefighters - showed trauma to the skull, compatible with a possible violent impact, perhaps with a boat. The wetsuit worn by the diver also showed cuts, further elements that could shed light on the dynamics of the accident.
The body was seized by the competent authorities, pending the decision to order an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The investigations, coordinated by the Port Authority, will now try to reconstruct precisely what happened, also verifying any witnesses or the presence of vessels in the area at the time of the dive.
