Naples – Roberto Saviano rekindles the debate on criminal infiltration into the world of organised football, pointing the finger at Inter.
Speaking to Radio CRC, a station linked to Napoli, the writer explained his controversial Instagram post following the Nerazzurri's draw in Bologna, calling it a "provocation" necessary to "shed light" on a situation that he said was very serious.
“Inter responsible? We have more than circumstantial evidence today, which speaks of the total acquiescence of the company,” Saviano stated firmly.
“We have criminals who, in the case of the Doppia Curva investigation, speak directly with Inzaghi, who obviously is not required to know the criminal record of these people. However, this means that these individuals have come to completely approach the club. The clubs must not pretend to let things float”.
Saviano did not appear intimidated by the announced complaint from the Nerazzurri club: "Inter wants to sue me for my story on Instagram? It would add to a thousand other complaints. I wanted to trigger indignation among Inter fans: I wanted to generate what has been generated in a cascade".
The writer then retraced the disturbing details that emerged from the “Doppia Curva” investigation, underlining the deep infiltration of organised crime in the Milanese curves: “The Doppia Curva investigation, one of the most important investigations carried out in the Western world, shows how the management of the Milanese teams' curves is absolutely infiltrated.
We are talking about very high-level infiltration: the Mancuso clan in the Milan curve and the Bellocco clan in the Inter curve. The managers, who have direct relationships with the companies, are actually chosen by the criminal organizations: we are not talking about simple alliances, so the situation deserves alarm”.
The choice to use a sporting event like Bologna's goal was claimed as a communication strategy: "I wanted to use, forcing it obviously, Bologna's goal, which is a sporting event, to shed light on the judicial matter. Companies tend to use sporting victory to avoid intervening on these issues".
Saviano then criticized the late and, in his opinion, insufficient reaction of Inter and Milan: “They respond that they are civil parties and injured parties, but there is a lot to say about this too.
The investigation started in 2018 and Inter and Milan announced that they would be civil parties in 2025 at the first hearing, but they did not file any complaint. In the meantime, there were dozens of arrests, 3 deaths inside the curves and there was no complaint”.
The writer also gave Juventus' behavior as an example: "Even Juventus, which has always had a cold relationship with the possibility of reporting infiltration of its Curva, started the 2016 investigation, Alto Piemonte, from its own complaint. This is not the case with the Inter affair".
Despite the criticism received from some Inter fans, Saviano reiterated his intent: "I used a provocation, not an end in itself, but to ensure that this defeat can shed light on the fact that the curve is infiltrated and that the investigations are very serious. The fans were disappointed by this criticism of mine, but obviously I refer to the management of the curve".
Finally, he responded to those who invite him to focus on Napoli: “And then they tell me 'think about Napoli': I have always denounced criminal infiltration in the Napoli curves, I have talked about Genny La Carogna as a Camorrista.
In the case of Napoli, however, the dynamics are different: precisely because it is a team that even before the Milanese teams had a terrible infiltration, in recent years there has been a different path".
