Naples – Two illegally occupied public housing apartments transformed into luxury homes have been seized in the Scampia neighborhood.
The intervention was conducted by the Municipal police of Naples, following reports of possible illegal occupations of public buildings.
The operation was led by the Heritage Protection Operations Unit, which carried out the first seizure in via Ghisleri, near the Oasi del Buon Pastore. The apartment, owned by the Municipality of Naples, was occupied without any title and completely renovated with structural interventions, carried out without any building permit.
Inside, the officers found the use of fine marble, quality materials and high-level architectural solutions, completely incompatible with the intended use of social housing.
Shortly after, the checks were extended to Via Attilio Micheluzzi, where a second apartment, owned by theACER (Campana Agency for Residential Building). In this case too, the property had been occupied illegally and renovation work was underway without any permit, with the clear intent of making it habitable.
The occupants were reported for illegal occupation of public housing and for violations of the Consolidated Building Act. In particular, the regulations impose the obligation of authorizations for every type of building intervention, with additional constraints in the case of public buildings.
The investigations continue to verify any other illegal occupations in the neighborhood and to ascertain further responsibilities, also in relation to the origin of the funds used for the renovations.
“The phenomenon of illegal occupation of public housing must be definitively eradicated through continuous and meticulous action of controls and inspections of construction work.
This could be one of the keys that brings to light the numerous illegal occupations still present in Naples and the province. The fact that these apartments are then renovated with luxurious finishes confirms what we have been denouncing for some time about the false situation of indigence that characterizes the criminals who take away homes from those who really need them and are regularly registered in the lists of the municipalities.
As it emerges from various publications of the same occupants on social networks that flaunt luxuries of all kinds to the detriment of those entitled. I have asked that these apartments be immediately returned to their legitimate assignees before they become the object of new criminal aims.
We will continue the fight against this particularly hateful phenomenon and we ask all the administrations involved to intensify controls on the occupants". These are the words of the deputy of Alleanza Verdi Sinistra Francesco Emilio Borrelli.

It's strange how you can occupy public housing and renovate it in an expensive way. These people don't think about who really needs a house. There should be more controls and severe punishment for those who commit these violations, otherwise the problem will not be solved.
