Piano di Sorrento – A late April evening turned into tragedy along the hilly streets of Piano di Sorrento. Around 20:30 pm yesterday, a violent head-on collision between a scooter and a car ended the young life of Domenico Romano, a 30-year-old resident of Meta di Sorrento.
The accident occurred a short distance from the crossroads that leads to the renowned Amalfi coast. According to initial reconstructions, the scooter, on which two young people were riding, collided head-on with a car that was traveling in the opposite direction.
The impact was fatal for the driver of the two-wheeled vehicle, Domenico Romano, whose death was certified on the spot by the 118 paramedics, who arrived quickly but were powerless in the face of the severity of the injuries sustained.
The other passenger of the scooter suffered minor injuries and was immediately transported to the hospital in Sorrento for checks. His conditions are not particularly worrying.
The Carabinieri of the Piano di Sorrento station intervened at the scene of the accident, coordinated by Major Ivan Iannucci, commander of the Sorrento company. The military immediately began investigations to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the tragic collision and ascertain any responsibilities.
Domenico Romano's body has been made available to the judicial authorities for an autopsy, a standard procedure in the case of death in road accidents, in order to further clarify the causes of death. The local community is in shock at the loss of the young man, and is grieving with the family.
The driver of the car, which was seized, was subjected to all the tests to establish whether he was fit to drive at the time of the impact.
