A dominant, solid Napoli, driven by clear ideas and symbolic men who made the difference. For Massimo Mauro, protagonist of the second Azzurri championship in 1990, the key to this year's triumph has a name and a surname: Aurelio De Laurentiis. “He found the right formula to make everyone perform at their best, and that's what a president has to do. The first credit goes to him, then comes Conte”, he declared to the microphones of Radio Anch'io Sport on Rai Radio1.
A season to remember, concluded with the tricolour on the last day, and a precise identity: “It's the Napoli of McTominay and Politano. Politano has become a real leader on the right wing, he had an extraordinary championship. McTominay was simply crazy”.
Yet, the future seems ready to change skin. According to Mauro, Conte's cycle could end here, without drama: "Napoli has always struggled the year after the Scudetto. Conte knows it and perhaps prefers to avoid it. And De Laurentiis might not see it as a tragedy either, on the contrary. It seems to me that there is a shared serenity. Changing after a triumph can be healthy. If Allegri were to arrive, it would be an excellent choice: he knows the group, understands the game and, let's face it, De Laurentiis enjoys winning with ex-Juve players".
Mauro: “Napoli, for the Champions League we need to extend the squad”
Looking to the future also on the double commitment that awaits the Azzurri with the Champions League: "We need to expand the squad, three or four players are enough. The structure is already there, and let's not forget that with Spalletti we almost reached the semi-final." Mauro, however, holds back on big names like De Bruyne: "I prefer winning bets like McTominay. Spending crazy amounts on players with no prospects doesn't convince me. I'm skeptical about this type of operation."
There is also a dig at Milan, lost between peaks and falls: "He must rediscover the desire to really work, to return to the humility and technical quality of the past. Continuity is lacking, this is the real limit." Finally, a word about Tudor and Juventus: "He did well to speak clearly. Going to the Club World Cup and then leaving would be a farce. We need consistency, we need respect. It's better to cut first than accept compromises without a future."
