IThe Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, has launched a strong appeal to the mayors of the municipalities in the Naples metropolitan area, urging them not to underestimate the risk of spreading the West Nile virus.
With the arrival of August, a month of large influxes of tourists and returnees from abroad, particularly from Asian and African countries, the prefect has issued a circular urging immediate preventive measures, in line with the provisions of the Ministry of Health, the Campania Region, and the local health authorities.
Attention is focused on the need to launch extraordinary disinfestation campaigns, both adulticidal and larvicidal, with particular attention to green areas, public parks, wetlands, road drains and all sites at risk of water stagnation.
The circular underlines the urgency of adopting all necessary measures to contain the spread of the virus, which poses a growing threat to public health.
Health and administrative authorities are called upon to work closely together to monitor and combat the phenomenon, especially given the increased summer travel. The goal is to minimize the risk of contagion, protecting residents and visitors in an area already under pressure from high tourist traffic.
A Call to Collective Responsibility
The prefect Michele of Bari He reiterated the importance of coordinated and timely action, urging mayors not to lower their guard. Disinfestation campaigns represent a crucial step in preventing the spread of the virus, which is primarily transmitted through the bites of infected mosquitoes.
Local and health authorities will continue to monitor the situation, committed to ensuring the safety of the population and tourists. Further details on the measures adopted will be communicated in the coming days.
