Scenes worthy of a movie took place at the “Mauro Scarlato” hospital in Scafati , where two migrants, hospitalized in the infectious diseases ward, escaped in the middle of the night.

The two, awaiting diagnosis for suspected monkeypox , used a rudimentary but effective method: knotted sheets to lower themselves from the ward window.

The escape and the mystery surrounding the reasons

The incident occurred between Saturday and Sunday. The two men, who disembarked at the port of Salerno a few days ago, had been transferred to the hospital as a precaution due to skin lesions that suggested monkeypox.

They took advantage of the night hours to put their plan into action and, after abseiling from several meters high, disappeared without a trace.

This absence was only later noticed by medical staff, who immediately alerted the authorities. The incident takes on even more mysterious overtones considering that the two patients were close to being discharged.

Clinical and epidemiological tests, in fact, seemed to have ruled out monkeypox, making the escape an act without a clear motive. The episode raises questions not only about the motives for their reckless action.
