Three dogs found starving to death in a kennel in Senerchia: owners reported

Senerchia – Dying of hunger and thirst, locked in a kennel with no hope of survival. This is the tragic fate of three mixed-breed dogs, found dead in a rural area in the municipality of Senerchia, in the province of Avellino.

They were discovered by the Carabinieri, who intervened together with the staff of the ASL veterinary health authority.
According to initial investigations, the animals had not received food or water for at least a week. A fourth dog, found in the same area in a severely debilitated condition, was rescued and placed in the care of the Montella municipal dog shelter.

A local couple reported

The animals' owners, a couple in their 60s living in Senerchia, were reported to the Avellino Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of animal cruelty and abandonment, aggravated by the fatal outcome of the act.

One of the three deceased dogs was microchipped, while the other two were unidentified. The carcasses were transferred to the laboratories of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale del Mezzogiorno, where tests will be performed to definitively determine the cause of death.

An episode that reopens the issue of stray animals and controls

The incident sparked outrage in the local community and rekindled the debate about the need for greater surveillance in rural areas and harsher penalties for those who mistreat or abandon animals.

The surviving dog will undergo further medical checks, while investigations continue to clarify any additional responsibilities and verify whether the animals were kept in proper conditions even before being abandoned.
