Flora Bosti, daughter of Patrizio Bosti, head of the Contini clan, has been granted house arrest outside the region, leaving the Messina prison where she was being held. The decision by preliminary hearing judge Villano, who granted the request of her defense attorneys Domenico Dello Iacono and Elisabetta Valentino, comes after a less severe sentence than requested by the prosecutor's office and an acquittal on charges of conspiracy.
Investigators from the DDA (District Anti-Mafia Directorate) had identified the woman as the "cashier" of the San Giovanniello clan, but the judge deemed that the precautionary measures had been relaxed, especially following her acquittal on charges of participation in the clan.
Flora Bosti's release is the latest in a series of dramatic twists and turns that have characterized the trial. In the first instance, the prosecutor's office had requested a 14-year prison sentence for her, but the 34-year-old was sentenced to six years and eight months for aggravated receiving stolen goods, with the charge of self-laundering on behalf of her father's mafia organization, which was later reclassified. She was also acquitted of threatening her ex-husband.
During the trial, the boss himself, Patrizio Bosti, via video link from the 41-bis harsh prison regime, intervened several times in his own defense with impassioned statements.
"To my daughter, I'm not a clan leader, but a father. My children are innocent," he thundered in court, rejecting the accusation that he was the clan's cashier and taking a swipe at his former son-in-law, Luca Esposito, who had briefly cooperated with justice.
The first-instance sentence, handed down at the beginning of the month, handed down 14 years in prison to mafia boss Patrizio Bosti and his son Ettore Bosti, also a prisoner under the 41-bis regime in Cuneo.
The investigation uncovered a significant amount of illicit assets that have been seized. The total value is estimated at several tens of millions of euros.
Among the seized assets are: €4 million in cash. A long series of luxury watches and jewelry worth a total of €16 million, including a €370 Patek Philippe watch and a €120 diamond necklace.
Cash and valuables were discovered and seized in a hidden vault in the home of Flora Bosti's ex-husband, Luca Esposito, who was sentenced to two years and eight months for non-aggravated money laundering.
The investigation, supported by new documents filed by the Prosecutor's Office, has painted a picture in which boss Patrizio Bosti and his son Ettore continued to issue orders and directives to the clan, despite both being subjected to the 41-bis regime. The Contini clan, known for its ability to reinvest financially even outside of Campania, remains one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the Secondigliano Alliance.
