Somma Vesuviana: Man closes car door when ex-boyfriend arrives; he had a knife. Arrested.

Somma Vesuviana - Hands banging on the door, windows rolling, a heart racing. This is the terrifying scene experienced by a 46-year-old woman in Somma Vesuviana, on Via Circumvallazione, where her ex-partner—a 49-year-old man already charged with abuse—surprised her while filling up at the gas station.

A few minutes that risked turning into yet another femicide, averted only thanks to the victim's clear-headedness, the courage of the pump operator, and the intervention of the Carabinieri.

The man, driving a white Jeep, recognized the woman and slammed on the brakes. He got out and lunged at her car, a small black hatchback. He attempted to open the passenger door, then, failing, began violently pounding on the driver's door, yelling that he just wanted to talk.

“He was yelling at me not to be afraid, but he was banging against the car with such force that it made me tremble,” the woman told the police, still in shock.

When the victim tried to drive away, the man grabbed onto the car, pulling out the handle and folding the mirror, as if the car were a barrier between him and what he couldn't accept: the end of the relationship.

The owner of the petrol station stopped the attack when he noticed the scene and intervened, confronting the man and forcing him to move away.

A few minutes later, the call to 112 was made. The son of the couple contacted the police and explained what was happening. Patrols from the Somma Vesuviana station arrived on the scene in time to apprehend the man, who had since returned.

“I didn't do anything,” he tried to justify himself, but the surveillance cameras captured everything: the chase, the threats, the fury.

During the search, the Carabinieri found a 17-centimeter switchblade in his purse. The man was arrested for domestic violence and transferred to prison.

At the police station, through tears, the woman explained that it wasn't the first time. She had already reported her ex twice, alleging episodes of violence and threats. But that fear that accompanies you everywhere, the one that makes you dizzy at every noise behind you, threatened to turn into something irreparable yesterday.

Once again, a woman's composure, a citizen's courage, and the swift action of law enforcement prevented a tale of violence from ending with another name added to the list of victims. A closed car door and the prompt action of those who acted quickly made the difference between fear and tragedy.
