Palinuro – A peaceful afternoon excursion turned into an emergency on the picturesque coast of Palinuro. A tourist was injured yesterday evening, Wednesday, November 12th, requiring a complex rescue operation by the Coast Guard.
The accident occurred in a rugged area near the renowned Molpa Beach, a stretch of coastline known for its rugged beauty but also for its difficult access by land. The woman, whose identity has not been released, was hiking when she was injured, finding it impossible to continue or be quickly reached by land-based rescue vehicles.
At the urgent request of 118 personnel, the maritime rescue system was immediately activated. Staff from the Palinuro Maritime District Office intervened and, recognizing the inaccessibility of the location by land, deployed the GC B148 vessel.
Coast Guard personnel quickly reached the hiker by sea. After stabilizing the woman and providing her with essential first aid on the spot, she was loaded onto the vessel and transported safely to the Port of Palinuro. From there, an ambulance rushed her to Vallo della Lucania Hospital for treatment and necessary medical checks.
The operation was successfully completed thanks to the promptness and professionalism of the maritime personnel, who once again confirmed their essential role in ensuring safety along the Salerno coast.
Alongside the intervention, the Coast Guard reiterated the importance of emergency channels. In case of danger at sea or along the coast, it is essential not to hesitate to call the 24-hour emergency number 1530, available nationwide, or to establish radio contact with the nearest Maritime Authority on VHF channel 16. This is an essential reminder for anyone venturing into coastal and marine environments.
