Sanitation alert in Lago Patria: giant rats at the 118 station, workers forced to work in the derelict state.

Giugliano – There's no respite for healthcare workers in the Phlegraean-Domitian area, forced to deal not only with medical emergencies but also with working conditions that are almost unsustainable. The latest alarm comes from the 118 emergency post in Varcaturo, located on Lago Patria, where a worrying infestation of rats has been documented.

The association "Nessuno tocchi Ippocrate" (Hands Off Ippocrate) has once again raised the issue, through its president, Manuel Ruggiero. The complaint highlights a long-standing state of degradation: despite previous reports sent to the UOC management, the problem has never been resolved, leaving doctors and nurses to live with rodents.

“It's nothing new”

"It's nothing new, but it remains a serious problem," explains Ruggiero, who knows the station well, having served there in the past. The latest incident occurred a few nights ago: a "considerable size" rat was spotted roaming undisturbed among the medical car and ambulance crews, right in the operational areas.

The seriousness of the situation goes beyond mere decorum. The presence of rodents in the healthcare facilities poses a direct threat to the sterility of the environment: "Medicines and medical supplies are stored there," the association's president emphasizes, "and contamination poses a clear risk to hygiene and safety."

The appeal to healthcare leaders is peremptory: stop ignoring the emails reporting the incident; action is needed. "Rats and workers cannot coexist in healthcare facilities," Ruggiero concludes, calling for immediate and effective pest control to restore dignity and safety to the staff working at Lago Patria.
