Widespread checks on social benefits in the Sannio region have begun, and the first reports have been filed. Ten people have been reported to the judicial authorities by the Benevento Guardia di Finanza for having improperly received citizen's income and inclusion allowance, for a total amount exceeding €170.

The investigation, launched at the beginning of the year by the provincial command of the Guardia di Finanza (Fiamme Gialle), involved the Benevento group and the Montesarchio and Solopaca districts. The checks focused on several families with the aim of verifying the accuracy of the declarations submitted to access the benefits provided by the legislation.

According to the investigations, the individuals reported had falsely certified that they met the necessary requirements, submitting untruthful or incomplete applications. In some cases, false documents were used, and in others, information relevant to the assessment of the applications was omitted.

Among the irregularities found was the failure to identify family members incarcerated in penitentiary institutions, which would have affected the right to receive the benefit. In other cases, however, the inclusion allowance was allegedly obtained through false declarations or without reporting subsequent changes in income.

Following the investigation, the Guardia di Finanza reported the cases to the Benevento provincial INPS office to initiate procedures to revoke the benefits and recover the unduly received sums.

The ten suspects are currently undergoing preliminary investigations and remain presumed innocent until a final verdict is reached. This operation is part of efforts to combat illicit public spending and protect resources earmarked for the most vulnerable segments of the population.
