Ischia, 25-year-old woman beaten and bitten in the face while holding her 9-day-old son: arrested

The violent scene unfolded at dinnertime in a home on the island of Ischia. The 25-year-old man was drunk and began yet another jealous rage. The 23-year-old woman was clutching her nine-day-old son.

The argument quickly escalates. The man loses control and punches his partner in the face and head, one after another. The woman tries to defend herself and, above all, protect the newborn baby she's still holding.

But the violence doesn't stop. The 25-year-old grabs his partner's cheek with his teeth and bites her, leaving a visible mark on her face.

The escape with the newborn and the cry for help

The screams reach outside the building. The young woman manages to escape the attack, leaves the apartment, and runs out into the street with the child.

A few steps away, he finds the door open to a fraternity where a meeting is underway. He enters and calls for help. The call to 112 is immediately placed.

The operations center dispatched a Carabinieri patrol from the Ischia station to the scene. When they arrived, they found the woman in shock, her face swollen and the bite mark clearly visible. Shortly thereafter, the emergency medical service arrived and transferred her to Rizzoli Hospital.

The arrest and the unreported mistreatment

The Carabinieri reached the home indicated by the victim. The 25-year-old was still inside, and the smell of rum was strong. The man was stopped and arrested.

Meanwhile, the police are reconstructing a history of unreported domestic violence. The young woman recounts past assaults: punches, slaps, bites, and hair pulled out during late-night arguments. She still has photos of the marks left on her body on her smartphone.

The couple had been together for almost two years, and the woman had previously taken refuge at her mother's house. She had decided to forgive him, especially in anticipation of the birth of her son. But this time, with the newborn in her arms during the attack, she chose to report the attack.

The 23-year-old was discharged with a ten-day prognosis for bruising, redness, and bite marks. The 25-year-old remains awaiting trial.
