Afragola, Martina Carbonaro's banner burned. Her mother: "A despicable act."

Afragola – A new, grave act desecrates the memory of Martina Carbonaro, the fourteen-year-old girl taken from her life just a year ago. The banner in her memory, placed outside the "Moccia" stadium in Afragola , was set alight and completely destroyed. The blaze also destroyed the stuffed animals, flowers, and cards that friends and residents had left over the years to commemorate her family.

The young woman's mother discovered and reported the vile raid, immediately reporting the incident and sending photographic documentation to Francesco Emilio Borrelli, a member of Parliament for the Green-Side Alliance.

A trail of intimidation

The burning of the banner doesn't appear to be an isolated case of vandalism, but rather the latest in a troubling sequence of events. Just a few days ago, the plaque in memory of Martina, placed on the red bench in Piazza del Rosario, was also brutally damaged.

This escalation of tensions comes amid an already tense climate: just two weeks ago, outside the Naples courthouse, the parents and friends of the fourteen-year-old were the target of explicit threats and verbal attacks by the family of the girl's killer.

The appeal to the institutions and the investigations

MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli and Salvatore Iavarone, regional representative of Europa Verde, have spoken out forcefully on the matter, calling for an immediate investigation to identify those responsible.
"Martina's memory does not deserve and must not be tarnished and trampled upon in this brutal way," the two politicians declared in a joint statement. Afragola A lot is happening.
