Farewell to Evaristo Beccalossi, Inter legend of the 80s.

Italian football mourns Evaristo Beccalossi. The Brescia-born attacking midfielder, one of the most beloved players in Inter's history, passed away during the night between Tuesday, May 5th and Wednesday, May 6th, 2026, at the Poliambulanza clinic in Brescia, where he had been hospitalized since January 2025 following an illness. He was 69 years old.

A career as a protagonist in black and blue

Born in Brescia on May 12, 1956, Beccalossi joined Inter in 1978 and became one of the club's icons between the late 1970s and early 1980s. Under the coaching of Eugenio Bersellini, he played a key role in winning the 1979-80 Scudetto and the 1981-82 Coppa Italia. He made 216 appearances for Inter in Serie A and European competition, scoring 37 goals, including a memorable brace in the derby on October 28, 1979.

Talent, irony and iconic moments

Affectionately nicknamed "il Becca," he was renowned for his creativity, dazzling dribbling, and masterful back-heel play. His legacy has also been ingrained in the collective imagination of Italian football thanks to a paradoxical episode: the two penalties he missed in seven minutes in the 1982 European Cup Winners' Cup match against Slovan Bratislava, immortalized in comedian Paolo Rossi's famous monologue and transformed over time into a cult story among fans.

After Inter, the bond with football does not break

In 1984, he left Milan to play for Sampdoria, before ending his playing career in 1991 after stints with Monza, Barletta, and Pordenone. In the years that followed, he remained a constant presence in the football world, serving as a television commentator and sports director, eventually becoming the head of the youth team delegation for the Italian Football Federation.
