The Vesuvius Observatory: "The seismic swarm is over."

Naples – The news has arrived that the people of Campi Flegrei have been waiting for hours: the seismic swarm that began on the evening of July 31st is officially over. Confirmation came from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) – Vesuvius Observatory, which announced the end of the seismic event at 11:59 a.m. during the meeting of the Relief Coordination Center held at the Palazzo di Governo.

The total number of earthquakes recorded is 217, with a peak magnitude of 4.7 recorded just last Friday with its epicenter in the Solfatara area.

The summit at the Prefecture and assistance to the displaced

The summit, chaired by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, was also attended by the President of the Campania Region, Roberto Fico, and the Bishop of Pozzuoli and Ischia, Monsignor Carlo Villano. This institutional meeting is crucial for planning the initial relief efforts and assessing the stability of the region.

The bradyseism-related earthquake affected 144 families, forcing them to leave their homes. Firefighters declared 10 residential buildings and 7 businesses uninhabitable. Most residents have found their own solution, while 88 people (including 17 minors) are currently being housed at the Palatrincone. For the most vulnerable, the Campania Region has activated the Ospedale del Mare residence and community hospital facilities, in addition to the support of accommodation facilities provided by Federalberghi. On the health front, there is reassuring news: the 5 people hospitalized immediately after the quake are showing significant improvement.

Firefighters at work: over 200 checks

The emergency now shifts to on-site inspections and safety measures. Firefighter teams, augmented by personnel from command centers across the region, have already completed 86 operations, with another 130 remaining on standby. Among the most significant operations is the consolidation of the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi and Sant'Antonio da Padova, on Via Pergolesi in Pozzuoli. To prevent looting in the evacuated areas, the police have already deployed dedicated surveillance services.

Transport and schools: the mobility situation

As the city attempts to return to normalcy, the first signs of recovery are appearing. The port of Pozzuoli has reopened and is fully operational again for ferry connections to Ischia and Procida.

Critical issues remain on the rail network: the Cumana tunnel along the Bagnoli-Torregaveta section remains closed. EAV and the Region are conducting continuous inspections to monitor the structure, while service is temporarily being provided by road with replacement buses. Finally, the Metropolitan City has already begun initial stability checks on school buildings in Pozzuoli, with the aim of planning any necessary interventions before the reopening in September.
