Naples, ASL Napoli 1 Centro denies cuts to Mental Health Centers: "It's just optimization."

NAPLES – In recent weeks, some news outlets have raised concerns about a possible downsizing of the Mental Health Centers of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro. Today, the Local Health Authority itself officially denied the move, seeking to clarify the situation.

According to the official press release, Decree No. 22 of the Commissioner for Health of March 11, 2011, establishes the organizational and functional standards necessary to ensure adequate and continuous care for patients with mental disorders. The ASL Napoli 1 Centro (Naples Central Health Authority) has clarified that this is not a reduction in services, but rather an improvement in internal organization, aimed at optimizing staff deployment and better responding to the population's real needs.

The initiative focuses on strengthening the time slots when there is a greater demand for care, with the aim of preventing exacerbations, reducing unnecessary hospitalizations, and supporting patients' families. Each Mental Health Center will also immediately guarantee the availability of nursing services during night hours and on holidays, ensuring appropriate and timely interventions.

The ASL emphasized that emergency interventions will still be provided by the local emergency service, while scheduled services will be managed more efficiently, avoiding waste and using resources more effectively.
