Mondragone, drunk and drugged while driving, flees the carabinieri checkpoint, arrested after a chase

A chase through the streets of Mondragone ended last night in Piazza Conte, where Carabinieri from the local Territorial Unit, supported by a second patrol and the Cellole Highway Police, arrested a 22-year-old local man, already known to law enforcement, red-handed.

The operation took place during a territorial patrol. On Via Castel Volturno, officers noticed a Mercedes A180 driven by the young man and ordered him to stop. According to the officers' reconstruction, the driver instead accelerated, attempting to evade control and fleeing through the city center.

The maneuvers carried out during the chase, which continued for a stretch of road, required the coordinated intervention of multiple patrols. This joint effort allowed the escape to be stopped and the young man to be apprehended in Piazza Conte.

At that point, searches of the suspect's person and vehicle were conducted. Approximately three grams of crack cocaine and a knife with a seven-centimeter blade were found in the suspect's possession. The drugs and knife were seized for further investigation.

The young man is charged with several crimes: driving without a license (already the subject of a previous charge in the two-year period), driving while intoxicated and under the influence of narcotics, fleeing a traffic stop and carrying an object capable of causing offence, in relation to the knife.

The officers reportedly detected symptoms consistent with alcohol and drug use; when asked to undergo tests, the driver refused both the breathalyzer and drug tests.

The Mercedes was seized and handed over to a licensed company. After completing the required formalities, the suspect was arrested and transferred to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, where he was held by the judicial authorities.

His position will be assessed in the subsequent phases of the proceedings, respecting the presumption of innocence and the guarantees provided by law.
