Naples, Gino Sorbillo launches a 5-euro 'fair trade' Margherita pizza.

Naples – A €5 Margherita pizza offers a concrete solution to high prices and, at the same time, celebrates one of the most well-known traditions of Neapolitan solidarity. This is "Pizza Solidale," an initiative launched by Gino Sorbillo through his social media channels.

The idea is simple: on Monday and Tuesday evenings, until October 31st, the Margherita will be offered for €5, with table service. The price does not include drinks or any additional charges.

"A small gesture for families"

Sorbillo himself explained the initiative in a video posted on social media, explaining the reasons behind the decision. The goal is to offer, especially in a period characterized by the rising cost of living, a way to continue enjoying pizza outside the home without sacrificing tradition.

"It's a way to support spending during a difficult time for families," explains Sorbillo, "but also to remember our city's tradition of solidarity, like the suspended coffee."

An initiative that the pizza chef presents without proclamations, defining it instead as a personal contribution in a difficult economic moment.

"Mine is just a small gesture," he emphasizes. "I certainly don't pretend to solve the complicated problems of so many people in this way, but I want to make my contribution."

Margherita at a controlled price

The promotion will be available at Sorbillo pizzerias throughout Italy on the two selected evenings. The formula aims to make one of the symbols of Neapolitan gastronomy more accessible, while still allowing for tableside dining.

The choice of Monday and Tuesday also intercepts two days that are traditionally less busy than the weekend, transforming them into an opportunity to bring customers back to the pizzerias.

The idea could come back

The October initiative may not be a one-off. Sorbillo has hinted at the possibility of reviving the "Solidarity Pizza" at other times of the year.

The project continues a Neapolitan tradition of small gestures of sharing, from the "suspended coffee" to the various solidarity initiatives that have characterized the city over time. In this case, the gesture involves one of Naples' most iconic products: a Margherita offered at a nominal price to try to ease, at least for one evening, the burden of the high cost of living.
