The operation
Benevento – A woman has been arrested by the State Police on serious suspicion of a series of thefts committed within a few hours, damaging several businesses and private citizens.
The operation was triggered by a report from a shopkeeper, who allegedly recognized the woman as the alleged perpetrator of a theft committed a few days earlier. The suspect was then identified and arrested thanks to the joint intervention of shopping center security personnel and State Police officers.
The woman was caught leaving immediately after stealing another item of clothing. During subsequent investigations, officers found numerous clothing items, accessories, and other items believed to be linked to several thefts, some of which occurred on the same day.
Among the seized items were scissors and numerous torn anti-theft tags. These elements, according to investigators, allowed them to reconstruct a modus operandi aimed at evading the controls and security systems in the stores.
During the investigations, it was also discovered that a smartphone had been stolen from a business using a ploy that distracted staff. The woman was arrested red-handed for aggravated theft and charged for the additional incidents that emerged during the investigation.
Once the formal procedures were completed, she was taken to a penitentiary institution and placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
At the same time, with a separate order relating to completely different facts, the officers also executed a prison order issued by another judicial authority. The order carries a total sentence of 3 years, 7 months, and 7 days.
The proceedings are currently in the preliminary investigation phase. The person under investigation is presumed innocent until a final conviction is issued.
