Giugliano Hospital launches 'pink pathway'

Giugliano Hospital has launched the Pink Pathway for the first time, a protocol developed by the Naples 2 North Local Health Authority (ASL) aimed at providing comprehensive care for female victims of violence. The recent incident was managed at San Giuliano Hospital on a patient from Melito.

At the beginning of October, the "Pink Pathway," a protocol implemented by the Local Health Authority Napoli 2 Nord for cases of violence against women, went into effect at Giugliano Hospital. The program, approved at the end of July, was initiated by the hospital's Surgery Unit, which coordinated the intervention of the various professionals involved in the procedure: a medical examiner for the assessment of injuries and documentation, a social worker for bureaucratic procedures, and a psychological support service to support the victim even after the trauma.

The operational update was tested by the latest incident: a polytrauma patient from Melito underwent emergency surgery by the General Surgery team led by Alfonso Rispo at San Giuliano Hospital. The woman's condition is currently good, the surgery was successful, and the prognosis has been confirmed.

The protocol provides for uninterrupted, 24-hour care, with the Surgery Unit available to handle emergencies and trauma cases, including overnight. The healthcare company reports that, in the last year, the Surgery Department at Giugliano Hospital has performed over 900 major surgeries and over 300 outpatient procedures, with a significant emergency rate and a trauma rate of approximately 20% of the caseload, amid growing complexity (from 4% to 12%).

This isn't the first time the Pink Path has been activated in ASL hospitals: eight incidents have been recorded since the beginning of August, including six at Santa Maria delle Grazie, one in Frattamaggiore, and one in Giugliano. Monica Vanni, general director of ASL Napoli 2 Nord, noted that women victims of violence have always been treated with the necessary care, but that the intra-hospital Pink Path now allows the emergency assistance network to be alerted at any time from the entire hospital network, positioning Pozzuoli as a reference hub and ensuring a multidisciplinary and integrated approach.

The director emphasized that protecting the life, freedom, and dignity of women remains at the heart of his commitment, thanking all the ASL staff for their daily work, carried out with professionalism and sensitivity.
