Wizz Air Expands Naples Flights: Third Plane and New International Routes to Spain

From 14 December 2026, Wizz Air will expand its presence in Naples with the arrival of a third Airbus A321neo and the introduction of three new routes to Barcelona, Madrid and Bilbao, increasing international connectivity and creating hundreds of new jobs.

Wizz Air, Italy's second-largest airline by market share, announces a major expansion of its base at Naples Capodichino International Airport. Effective December 14, 2026, the airline will base a third Airbus A321neo aircraft at the airport, marking a decisive step in strengthening its international route network.

This expansion includes the launch of three new routes to highly sought-after Spanish destinations: Barcelona, Madrid, and Bilbao, with daily and weekly flights offering travelers new opportunities for business and leisure. At the same time, Wizz Air will increase its flights from Naples to Venice, from 11 to 14 weekly flights for the winter season.

With the introduction of the new aircraft, the airline will be able to offer over 500.000 additional seats, bringing the total number of routes from Naples to 23, with direct connections to 13 countries, including Tirana, Sofia, Tel Aviv, and numerous European cities. This growth will also have a significant impact on employment: 40 new direct jobs and 350 indirect ones are expected in the related sector.

Wizz Air's investment also extends to Salerno Airport, where the company will launch six new international routes by 2030, with one new route per year starting in 2027, thus strengthening regional connectivity and the prospects for tourism and economic development.

Roberto Barbieri, CEO of Gesac, emphasized how this strategic partnership confirms the central role of the Campania airport system on the international scene, while also enhancing the region's tourism and economic potential. Ian Malin, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air, highlighted the importance of Naples as a growth market and the airline's commitment to supporting the development of air mobility in Southern Italy.

The introduction of the Airbus A321neo, a next-generation aircraft featuring greater comfort, lower noise, and reduced emissions, also represents a step towards greater environmental sustainability.

This expansion follows a year of significant growth for Wizz Air in Italy, carrying over 21 million passengers in 2025 and a 62% increase in operating capacity in Naples compared to the previous year. The airline, with a fleet of 44 aircraft based in the country and a 12% market share, confirms its position as one of the leading carriers in the Italian market, with ambitious plans for the near future.
