Naples – Six. There's one number that speaks volumes about the complexity and sacrifice of providing security today in Naples and its province: six interventions a day for gender-based violence . Six calls for help, six stories of fear that cross the threshold of local police stations every day.

Between May 1, 2025, and the end of May 2026, the Naples Provincial Command of the Carabinieri recorded 2.164 incidents of gender-based violence, a dramatic average of nearly 167 cases per month. This shocking figure, which, on the 212th anniversary of the Carabinieri's founding, captures the two most pervasive emergencies in the region: violence against women and the uncontrolled circulation of weapons, even among the very young.

Gender-based violence: over 2.100 measures in one year

Behind the numbers lie family dramas and traumas that often affect minors. But the figures help quantify the investigative effort. In response to the 2.164 incidents recorded, the Carabinieri made 465 arrests (more than one per day), 18 arrests in deferred flagrante delicto—the regulatory tool that allows for intervention within hours of the incident—and reported 1.624 men. In total, the enforcement effort resulted in 2.107 arrests and reports.

Domestic abuse remains the most common crime: 1.327 cases, or 61,3% of the total. This means that nearly two out of three incidents occur within the home. The picture is rounded out by 610 cases of stalking (one and a half per day), 235 threats, 186 personal injuries, 100 incidents of battery, 78 sexual assaults, and 40 cases of revenge porn.

Recidivism is also a concern: 41 attackers violated the restraining orders imposed by judicial authorities, returning to seek out their victims. The profile of those under investigation also reveals profound social and health fragility: the offenders include 160 drug addicts, 52 alcoholics, 45 individuals with confirmed psychiatric disorders, and a growing number of compulsive gamblers. Fifteen of them were legally in possession of weapons: all had their licenses immediately revoked.

Guns among young people: nearly two seizures a day

The other scourge affecting the Naples metropolitan area is the proliferation of guns in the hands of children and adolescents. Between 2025 and the first five months of 2026, the Carabinieri removed 880 potentially lethal objects from the streets.

In 2025 alone, 203 firearms, 144 bladed weapons, and 376 objects capable of causing harm (clubs, knuckle dusters, nunchucks) were recovered. This statistical average exceeds two seizures per day. The trend remains very high in the first five months of 2026, with the seizure of 45 firearms, 19 knives, and 86 dangerous objects.

The crackdown resulted in 122 arrests and 350 charges filed. The most alarming figure concerns the involvement of minors: 53 youths were apprehended with illegal knives or pistols, intercepted both in organized crime groups and during weekend nightlife checks. During the same period, 154 assaults with firearms and 119 with knives were recorded, resulting in eight murders and dozens of serious injuries.

Environmental crimes: the Control Room's control room

The Carabinieri's record also extends to land protection and the fight against eco-mafia. Thanks to the coordination of the "Control Room" established at the Carabinieri Forestry Command of Campania, monitoring in the Land of Fires and critical areas has yielded significant results.

Since June of last year, 6.082 patrols have been deployed, conducting 9.334 roadside checks. This enforcement action has led to the seizure of 400 polluting sites or businesses, the arrest of 34 people, and the reporting of 536 others for violations of the Consolidated Environmental Act.

Two hundred and twelve years of service to citizens

The anniversary of the Carabinieri is therefore not just a formal celebration, but the testament to an ongoing commitment. Over the past twelve months, the Naples Provincial Command has responded to thousands of calls for help to 112 in the dead of night. Behind each of these numbers are field patrols, rapid investigations, and emergency interventions that demonstrate, in practice, what it means to ensure the safety of one of Italy's most complex provinces.
