Nearly a year after his passing, Torre del Greco is preparing to remember one of its most beloved sons. On June 27, the Amerigo Liguori Stadium will host the first "A Goal for Life" Memorial, an event dedicated to Simone De Martinis, a State Police officer originally from the Vesuvian town who served on Capri, who died at just 34 following complications following a delicate surgical procedure.
A tragedy that deeply affected family members, colleagues, and the public, but which also became an extraordinary testimony of solidarity. Thanks to his choice to donate his organs, Simone managed to save 16 lives, leaving a legacy of hope that continues to speak to thousands of people today.
The initiative was promoted by the Simone De Martinis Association with the aim of keeping the memory of the young policeman alive and raising public awareness of the importance of organ donation.
The event, titled "A Goal for Life," will combine sport, memory, and civic engagement in a day open to all. Admission is free, and the event will benefit from the patronage and support of numerous local institutions and associations.
The one who relaunched the invitation to participate was the Green and Left Alliance MP, Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who responded to the appeal of Simone's mother, Arca Colamarino.
"There are stories in which grief gives way to profound emotion and infinite gratitude," the parliamentarian declared. "Simone was a golden boy, a respected policeman, and a supporter in love with his homeland. His untimely passing is still an open wound, but his final gesture of love represents an extraordinary lesson that moves all of Italy."
According to Borrelli, the young officer "embodies the highest values of the State Police and our community: courage, altruism, and humanity." A special thought was also given to the officer's mother, who is committed to carrying on her son's legacy through social activities and awareness-raising initiatives.
For the MP, events like the Memorial represent an important opportunity to spread the culture of organ donation and to transform pain into a message of hope.
"I invite the entire community of Torre del Greco, Capri, and the whole of Campania to participate and fill the stadium stands on June 27. We must be many to rally around the family and to testify that Simone's sacrifice and example will never be forgotten," he concluded.
