Torre del Greco, a nightlife curfew has been implemented: alcohol bans and early closures for four months.

Torre del Greco – A tough response to curb violent outbursts in the city's nightlife. The mayor of Torre del Greco , Luigi Mennella, has signed a shocking ordinance imposing drastic restrictions on the city's businesses and clubs for the next four months. The measure, co-signed with Municipal Police Commander Gennaro Russo, will go into effect today, June 1st, and will remain in effect until October 1st.

The decision was made as a direct result of the serious incident that occurred during the night between Friday and Saturday on Via Vittorio Veneto, in the city center, where a 39-year-old man was left critically ill by several stab wounds following a brawl.

Stop glass and takeaway alcohol

The core of the ordinance aims to eliminate the potential dangers associated with alcohol abuse and the use of rigid containers as improper weapons. Every day, from 23:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, the sale and takeaway of alcoholic beverages, spirits, and even soft drinks in glass bottles or cans will be prohibited.

The ban also affects consumers: during the same hours, it will be forbidden to consume these beverages in glass or cans in public or private areas used by the public. The only exceptions are table service in restaurants and similar establishments, as well as, of course, pharmacies and drugstores.

Shutters down first and zero tolerance on music
Torre del Greco's nightlife hours are also changing radically. Public venues will have to lower their shutters:

From Sunday to Thursday: Mandatory closing by 0:30 am.

Friday and Saturday: closing extended to 1:30 am.

For all, reopening is scheduled for 6:00 a.m., with a maximum grace period of 30 minutes granted to managers only to tidy up and clean the premises after closing.

Finally, a crackdown on noise pollution. Music in venues will be permitted only until midnight Monday through Thursday, until 1:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and until 0:30 a.m. on Sundays and weekday holidays. A "silence period" has also been introduced: a complete ban on all sound during the 14:00 p.m. to 17:00 p.m. daily time slot.
