At-risk deaths: Campania remains in the red zone: 22 victims in the first four months of the year.

Campania has seen a slight improvement in workplace deaths, but the situation remains very concerning. In the first four months of 2026, 22 fatalities were recorded in the region, 19 of whom died while working and 3 while commuting. This figure represents an 18,5% decrease compared to the same period last year, but is still sufficient to keep Campania in the so-called "red zone" of the national risk map developed by the Vega Safety and Environment Observatory.

The alarm: incidence higher than the national average

Mauro Rossato, president of the Vega Observatory, raised the alarm, saying the drop in deaths is not enough to end the emergency.

"Despite the decrease compared to 2025, the situation in Campania remains critical," Rossato emphasizes. The most worrying figure concerns the incidence of workplace mortality: in Campania, there are 10,8 deaths per million employed people, significantly higher than the national average of 8,1.

The Observatory's classification identifies the regions with the highest workplace mortality rates as red zones. Campania therefore continues to be one of the most critical areas in the country, highlighting the need to strengthen prevention and control efforts.

Salerno and Caserta are the most exposed provinces

The territorial analysis shows that the most delicate situations are in the provinces of Salerno and Caserta, both located in the red zone.

Salerno has the highest rate, with 21,7 deaths per million employed, while Caserta stands at 10,7. No province in Campania is in the orange risk band.

Naples, with a rate of 7,9, and Avellino, with 6,7, are in the yellow zone. Benevento is the only positive exception: having recorded no fatal accidents either at work or while commuting, it falls into the white zone.

Naples and Salerno lead the tragic toll

Of the 22 total victims recorded between January and April, Naples and Salerno are the provinces with the highest number of deaths, both with nine workplace deaths.

Caserta follows with three victims, Avellino with one and Benevento with no deaths.

These figures confirm how the phenomenon continues to significantly impact the region's areas with the highest production and employment density.

Nearly six thousand accident reports

In addition to fatalities, the overall number of reported accidents remains high. At the end of April, 5.984 workplace accident reports were reported.

Of these, 1.839 involved female workers and 4.145 male workers. Complaints filed by foreign citizens totaled 442 cases.

The age group between 55 and 64 was particularly affected, with eight deaths at work, followed by the 35 to 44 age group, with six deaths.

Construction, the sector with the most victims

Among the manufacturing sectors, construction remains the most exposed. Four fatalities were recorded on construction sites in Campania in the first four months of 2026.

This data rekindles attention to workplace safety and the need to intensify inspections, training, and investment in prevention, especially in sectors traditionally characterized by a higher risk of serious and fatal accidents.
