The Nocera Inferiore Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the case, coordinating the investigation entrusted to the Carabinieri of the Pagani station and the Nocera Inferiore territorial unit. According to investigators' initial reconstruction, the father and son had a violent argument inside the home. The argument quickly escalated into a fight, resulting in the death of the 58-year-old.

Investigators are currently investigating the possibility that the man may have been strangled. Numerous signs of violence were also found on the victim's body, and forensic tests will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. A neighbor reportedly raised the alarm. By the time the Carabinieri arrived on the scene, there was nothing more they could do for Antonio Cercola.

The 27-year-old son was immediately arrested by the Carabinieri. Investigators are now working to reconstruct the exact sequence of events and determine the motive for the tragedy. The primary investigation remains that of a family homicide that arose as a result of a violent argument.
