An evening of chaos and disruption unfolded yesterday at Naples Capodichino International Airport, where a Volotea flight to Crete, scheduled for 17:55 PM, was cancelled, leaving dozens of passengers stranded and without any concrete support.

Already invited to report to the airport by 15:00 PM, travelers found themselves without an airline information desk and without clear official communications, receiving only a vague email postponing their departure to the following day with no specific information on times or re-routing procedures.

The situation dragged on into the night, with the flight never taking off and passengers forced to wait in precarious conditions, without direct assistance from Volotea. Only the intervention of Gesac, the airport operator, allowed them to be transferred to hotels in Caserta to ensure a minimum level of rest, although the airline failed to provide adequate support. The food vouchers distributed, accepted by only one fast food restaurant and up to a maximum of €20, proved insufficient and a source of further frustration.

On site, Green-Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, along with Rosario Pugliese of Europa Verde, denounced the "embarrassing" handling of the event, emphasizing that passengers lost almost two days of vacation time and urging them to file complaints and request reimbursement. Borrelli also announced a formal note to the management of Gesac urging a stronger commitment to protecting travelers' rights and monitoring airline services at Capodichino.

This incident once again highlights the critical issues facing the Neapolitan airport system, where despite growing profits, poor service and a lack of attention to passengers continue to occur, jeopardizing the reputation of a strategic hub for Campania's tourism.
