Transforming the Land of Fires from a symbol of environmental emergency to a national model of legality, land protection, and the circular economy. A new challenge for the proper management and recovery of agricultural plastics begins in Villa Literno, the heart of Campania's red tomato production.
The second stage of "Environment and Agriculture, Responsibility in the Field" took place today, a project promoted by PolieCo, the National Consortium for the Recycling of Polyethylene Goods, and Giuseppe Vadalà, the Sole Commissioner for Remediation, together with trade associations.
The initiative focused on the extraordinary collection of drip lines, greenhouse films, and mulching materials—plastic waste widely used in agricultural activities that requires proper disposal at the end of its useful life.
The day continued at Casa Don Diana, in Casal di Principe, headquarters of the Don Peppe Diana Committee, where representatives of the institutions, the Consortium, and the agricultural community discussed the critical issues still present in the area.
The discussions revealed the desire to establish a permanent working group between the Sole Commissioner, PolieCo, the Regional Agriculture Commission, and the trade associations.
The goal is to coordinate training and awareness-raising activities, improve collection systems, and increase the recycling of plastics from agricultural activities.
"This is an important day to boost the recovery of agricultural plastics and raise awareness among entrepreneurs, who in the vast majority of cases operate impeccably," explained Giuseppe Vadalà, Sole Commissioner for Remediation.
A process that primarily aims to build a true recovery chain. "We will organize new initiatives and continue to collect this waste, which is neither sent to landfill nor to waste-to-energy plants but, by closing the chain, is transformed into new raw materials," Vadalà added.
PolieCo's general manager, Claudia Salvestrini, also expressed satisfaction. "The challenge now is to build a stable organization that supports farmers on this journey, so that the so-called 'Land of Fires' can become a positive model of environmental protection, legality, and the circular economy at the national level."
A challenge that also requires new regulations. The president of the Campania Agriculture Commission, Raffaele Aveta, has announced the presentation of a law dedicated to the management of plastic waste generated by agricultural activities in September.
The goal is to move beyond the logic of extraordinary interventions and build a stable system capable of supporting farmers in the proper management of materials, combating illegal waste dumping and promoting the recovery of plastics as a new raw material.
