Poggiomarino – A serious incident of incivility and violence occurred in Longola, Poggiomarino, where a woman and her 12-year-old son were attacked for attempting to stop illegal waste dumping.
Carabinieri from the Poggiomarino station were able to identify and report the three perpetrators: a 36-year-old local man and a father and son living in San Giuseppe Vesuviano. The charges against them range from littering to assault.
The three men had positioned themselves with a truck on Via Ceraso, a suburban area near the well-known archaeological and naturalistic site of Longola, and began illegally dumping a large load of waste. At that moment, a 36-year-old woman and her twelve-year-old son drove by in her car.
The woman's strong civic sense prevailed: she pulled over and confronted the three individuals, demanding they immediately stop their illegal dumping. Meanwhile, her 12-year-old son had the foresight to pull out his smartphone, activate the camera, and begin recording the scene to document the crime.
Attack with a stick and robbery of a minor
The three criminals' reaction was unspeakably violent. After an initial barrage of insults and serious threats to dissuade the woman, the group escalated into violence. Armed with a stick, they physically attacked both the mother and the boy.
Noticing that the twelve-year-old was filming the spill, the three attacked him, forcibly snatching his cell phone from his hands to destroy evidence of the crime, thus turning the assault into a full-blown robbery of a minor. Immediately after the attack, the suspects boarded the truck and fled.
The investigations and reports of the Carabinieri
The alarm was raised immediately. The Carabinieri in Poggiomarino began their investigation based on the descriptions provided by the victims. The meticulous analysis of images from public and private video surveillance systems along the truck's route was crucial.
The officers quickly identified the vehicle's license plate and identified the three occupants. The perpetrators were charged with littering and robbery.
