Castellammare: Daily extortion for two and a half years
Castellammare. – In the last few hours, Carabinieri officers from the Company and staff from the Castellammare di Stabia Police Station have executed a house arrest warrant with an electronic bracelet against a 54-year-old resident of the city.
The order was issued by the preliminary investigations judge of the Torre Annunziata Court, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office. The man is being investigated for aggravated robbery, repeated extortion, and threats, crimes he is accused of for events committed in Castellammare di Stabia until July 25, 2026.
The investigation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office and conducted by the police and Carabinieri, stemmed from two separate complaints. According to investigators, the incidents are not isolated: they are part of a broader pattern of repeated requests for money over time.
The prosecution reconstructs an extortion scheme that lasted approximately two and a half years. According to the documents, the suspect allegedly demanded sums of between 20 and 50 euros at a time from the victim, with a frequency described as daily.
The investigators explain that the evidence was supported by an examination of public video surveillance systems, photographic identifications, and the gathering of summary information. These elements, according to the Prosecutor's Office, constitute serious evidence of guilt.
On July 24, 2026, according to the investigative reconstruction, the man allegedly grabbed and dragged the victim, threatening to hit her in the face to force her to hand over money. He then slapped her on the back of the head and lips.
The day after the complaint was filed, upon learning of it, the suspect allegedly threatened to kill the victim. He snatched €16 from her hand and chased her into the entrance hall of the building where she lived.
After completing the necessary formalities, the 54-year-old was escorted to the location he indicated, where he will serve house arrest. He will not be able to leave without prior authorization from the judicial authorities. Electronic surveillance is also being carried out.
The proceedings are in the preliminary investigation phase. The measure can be appealed before the Court of Review. The suspect cannot be considered guilty until a final conviction is issued, applying the presumption of innocence.
